Watching BBC Springwatch tonight and it seems that the migratory UK eel population is recovering. Numbers are massively increasing compared to the disastrous declines of the previous decade or so.

 

But no-one really knows why.

 

Puzzling creatures.

In Sussex the eels have never gone away!

about time the trust do the right thing, they had a hand in the eel ban based the fact that the anglers take had nothing to do with any depletions what so ever and they still advocate sending the deep hooked eel back dead or dying for some other fish or bird or someone's dog even to eat with a hook stuck down inside,

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Yes, more record numbers of elvers, born at a time when we were told without a shadow of a doubt that the eel was all but extinct. That's 3-4 years by the way, just for reference sake. Seems the experts know less about eels than they ever did.
