I clicked on here thinking you were asking about the Pentax *ist DSLR, which I was going to suggest you steer clear of - but as it's a first digital camera you need info on, all I can do is add to Steve Burkes' link with this one, which maybe of use?

If you need a couple,ie camera and printer, then try Kodak they have a very broad range to meet most budgets.

Olympus mu (mini) dead basic, top quality, also does short vids. Fits in shirt pocket size. Approx £120 from makro.
