Well, Bob, Motormouth didn't let you get many words in edgeways did he! Typical Londoner!!

Two points, one that he didn't wish to upset other anglers, secondly that he didn't see pike anglers as THE problem. Granted those two points might be connected though.

Morning Bob, looking good out there for a spot of river piking today.

The EA will act, if it has something to act on. So yes, its up to interested parties to give them rather more than wild accusations and guesses.

I don't think that pikers will help police the boatsheds, not seeing it as their problem. But I do believe that the Broads needs an active association of anglers and clubs that is prepared to police the Broads.

The out of season fishing at Potter is a prime example. It goes on at the chalets and no one does sweet fanny adams about it. Out of season commercial piking under the pretext of game fishing is another area that needs tightening up. Pole fishing is causing major ill feeling between boaters and anglers, whilst not an offence, needs looking at.

The EA and BASG are just not big enough to cope. We need greater resources, we need an effective Broads Angling Association. We tried that with the Norfolk & Suffolk Anglers Consultative Association under the NAFAC banner, it failed dismally through lack of support by member clubs. I don't know the answer Bob.

I suppose at the end of the day it is about taking a little responsibility ourselves, it is unrealistic to expect the EA or any other organisation to be able to police an area as remote and large as the Norfolk Broads, It has to come down to the likes of you and I,what are your thoughts?

Guardian Angels of Angling?

Pairs of anglers wandering around quietly reminding the ignorant and the miscreants about licences, litter, close seasons, good practice etc etc? I suspect the average Joe on the riverbank would be delighted to see them.

(When street crime in New York got too much for some to bear they formed their own volunteer patrols, "The Guardian Angels". Brief history at http://www.guardianangels.org/history_full.html )

Bleeding heart liberal pinko, with bacon on top.

OK Budgie, I will carry out my own experiment inside those wetsheds with a large landing net, I just hope I do not get collared! that would be ironic.

Good to see you are still keeping a sense of humour Bob.

Just for the record I never catch freshwater fish and knock them on the head for a deadbait.Far to great a waste of a live bait. All my freshwater deads are ex lives so doubling up on their logevity as a bait and reducing the amount of fish needed. Most of my live baits are farm reared trout the rest are mainly roach obtained from a relatively small water.this water although mainly thought of as a carp water has a large head of roach.myself and three other pikers I know have the owners permission to take as many roach as we want for bait.Been doing this for over20 years now and there certainly hasnt been a decline in the roach fishing.I am prepared to concede that some waters (very small low stocked) couldnt take this and as such it would be wrong to do so. as with many things it is not what is being done but the way it is done.

Maybe the comercialism of pike fishing doesnt help but it seems that you are against any form of taking fish for bait or not, even by individuals?

I put it to you Bob that if it is decided that a pike angler taking a couple of fish for bait is unaceptable,or an angler taking a jack for the table is unaceptable then how long is it before going fishing for a net of roach (some of which inevitabley die as a result of being caught/unhooked/handled/kept in a net) becomes unaceptable?

A very slippery slope mate. However once again I must say that fish being removed from the system by any oif the above is still unlikely to affect a healthy system so if there are problems you/we need to look a bit harder for the culprits.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
