Printer Problem

Elton

Recommended Posts

I do very little printing at home and, lately, have been using an Epson Stylus 700.

The colour cartridge has run out and I don't want to buy another one, as I don't need colour.

Is there a way of overriding the settings on it in order for it to print in black? Currently, the warning light is on and it won't let me do anything :(

My daughter has the same printer, we as yet have not found a way round this either.

If you can lie on the floor without holding on, then you’re not drunk.

I've got a solution, but it involves the bin and my credit card ;)

pretty certain there is no way round this one - I've never found one!

If you only need b&w I would be very tempted to buy personal laser printer - much better value for b&w printing!!

Bought a HP 1010 nearly 16 months ago, still on my fist toner cartridge. Total cost of printer was £68, new toner is around £30.

That's the plan, Nick.

I bought a laser printer for work from Dabs the other week and it is superb! The speed of it, compared to what I'm used to, is just mind blowing.

I think it was this one, but will need to check next time I visit the 'office'... http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quick...,41296,41044,12

{just checked old emails - yes, that's the one}

Blow it - just ordered another for home use.

Happy with the other one, so seems sensible to stick with what I like :)

I use a Lexmark, to get it to print all things in B&W :-

I press the Ctrl & P keys at the same time - up pops a window.

Then I click on the box named Preferences or Properties - up pops a window.

Here I have a choice of how I want my printer to work.

I select the B&W option and there it goes. Prints all in B&W.

It may not be the same for an Epson, but give it a try. ;)

Just checked my Epson Printer properties ..

Try this ...

Right Click on printer icon.

Select "Printer Settings".

In the "Main" window click "Advanced".

Click "Continue".

Select "Black Ink Only" (Bottom Left Panel)

Works for me !!! :P:P

Wiggly.

The Older I get .. The better I was.

I've cheated for now, although I'll try the black only thing when it happens next. Trouble is, I think it was already set to black only.

My 'cheat' involved removing the dead colour cartridge, banging it on the desk and then coating each 'hole' with a bit of saliva.

Weird thing is, I don't recall seeing that in the Epson manual :D

It's allowed me to print off an invoice I needed, anyway, which is handy. New laser should be with me in a day or so - it was despatched today.

Cheers for all your help,

Elton
