i know you'll take this as a snide cowardly comment bob, but nicks asking how you'll deal with the problem of a deep hooked fish.....

(on a size 10 hook with a large lob, there aren't that many methods :))

Calm down Nick, calm down, What method will you be fishing?

i think its the bent pointy thing attached to a thin hangy thing thats made to sink with leady things with a form of indicator which could be a floaty thing or a bendy thing or a buzzy thing method <_<

on the end of the thin connecting string there could be a long thing that has a stretchy thing or a shorter thing with a whirly thing that the driver uses to hold the string before deciding how much string to use err method

the long thing is made of soot and plastic (or shredded glass when i used one last) the shorter thing can also be made the same way but i prefer shredded glass in this case and the whirly thing is also made with soot plastic and metal ,i prefer the larger quantity to be metal some prefer it the other way round err method

the driver can sit on any material he chooses usually it matches his clothingy thing but nearly all now come from a far eastern country thing :)

Lets turn it around a bit Bob, what methods, and tackle would you advocate in order to avoid deep hooking of perch, or any species for that matter? The brief is a simple one, you are not limited in any way, you have an open floor. Imagine that I am a total beginner asking for advice. I want to catch perch without risking a deep hooking. I will be fishing lakes and rivers.

Me, calm down, I live my life in a horizontal position I'm that laid back.

Just to keep life real simple for you imagine I'm fishing a 5 metre whip. 6lb line straight through. A float of some sort taking 2 swan shot, bulked about 3 feet from the hook, which is a size 10 forged with a big barb. For bait I've got a wriggly old lob worm. And I'm fishing over depth by about 2 foot so the float can blow about plenty.

Just your average joe public angler.

Now over to you Bob, what should I do differently?

A serious question, Do they not do circle hooks in small course fishing sizes???

Scotty

Down to about a size 18. The bad news is that I've never found them in the UK. For small size fine wire circles look for Eagle Claw NT2050F. This is where get them in the States Saltwaterflies Oddly, that's the only place that I've seen them on sale although some of the more specialist flyfishing stores on the east coast will also have them. More bad news is that they come minimum of 50 per pack. At around 12 bucks apiece if you want to experiment with sizes, its not going to be cheap. Then there's postage, then there's VAT, then there's Duty then there's..........yep definitely going to emigrate one day

Fair enough Argyll, I was just curious and wondered if it was something course anglers would consider in the future, they are quite popular on the sea fishing scene for certain species.
