Hi and welcome to Anglers' Net.

A pike could easily cut your line unless you used wire but otherwise, it would help to know what breaking strength hooklength you were using.

Welcome to AN.

As Newt says the usual culprit is pike, but if you supply us with more info, then we might be able give you a better idea.

Things such as, where does the line break. Have you had the fish on for a while, or is it breaking on the strike. What does the line look like on the break, is it straight or curly, like a pigs tail. As Newt says the BS, and type of line, and the type of rod can play a part. Are the many mussels in the water, is the bottom made up of sharp gravel. There are dozens of things that can cause line to break, and often if it's been weakened, it can seem as if it's been bitten through.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Me and my uncle used 3lb and 10lb line which it cut, we then used a 15lb line which seemed to work. We asked the bailiff and he said he'd spent 2 days fishing for pike and caught nothing. The reaseon I say perch is because the lake has quite a few.

What bait were you using, how were you fishing and what line was getting cut?

If you were bottom fishing with meaty baits and the line was coming in hookless, my guess would be crayfish.
