Converting maps

been playing with the GPS on my camera ,every picture is logged with GPS data and on downloading to Finepix viewer you can select the pictures and "map viewer" constructs a path in google maps with the pictures and track in the correct(ish) order .

nothing new here but the damned software only saves in FMAP format not KML so i can stick it in google earth ,anyone know a way of doing so ,even my cruddy GPS data logger lets me choose the format but not FUJI

What's in the fmap file if you open it in notepad?

hi sorry for not replying sooner ,anyway the file is here .

no understanding of maps plus photos ,used gps plots on google earth before so no idea how to put a plot plus photos anywhere they can be seen other than downloading this fuji map program but even then the viewer would have to imprt the photos as well ,i was hoping for a simple drag into google earth where the data and photos would sit for all to see

OK, that's good - it's an XML format just like the KML files. I've not got time to do it right now, but it should be a piece of cake to write a program to convert one to the other. I'll see what I can knock up for you.

Thanks but where do the photos appear from in the finished dooda ,in the file they live on my computer but on google they will have to be uploaded i presume?

Hmm, not sure. If you want other people to see the photos you will have to upload them somehow. If the files have embedded GPS data in the image properties it might Just Work. But it won't get your path data, just the photo locations.

Hmmm looks a bit complicated for thick me .

The logger i used before buying this camera exports files suitable for google earth and that works fine as a track from point to point and you can add photos (if your camera has no gps you take a photo and push a switch on the logger which puts a point on the track for inserting the photo)

Perhaps if my file can be converted to a gpx? File i can import it into that prog then put my photos in ? Then export it as an xml file?

The gps logger is this thing ,its not that sensitive the camera is slightly better gps wise
