Zander fish-in - October

Yes, I tend to have reasonably long traces so I can trim them down when they start to wear and not have to replace the whole thing. You probably only actually need about a foot! The flouro is hard wearing though, much more so than mono, so a trace usually lasts ages.

I have gone for 10lb Powerpro, joined by small swivel to three feet of 15 lb Seaguar fluorocarbon,

Knots

jighead to fluoro = I found the eyes too small (especially as there was already one end of a stinger attached) for any knot involving a doubled trace, so used a seven-turn grinner, VERY carefully snugged down and tested to withstand a 10 lb pull - seems to work OK, although grinners have a reputation of slipping with fluoro

Fluoro to swivel = palomar

mainline braid to swivel - six turn grinner

and yes, with these materials you have to make very sure the knots don't slip

Stingers made up with 30 lb braid and grinners both ends

Steve W - how do you intend to attach the stingers in Post #322 to the jig-head ? I tied mine directly to it

Dave, I plan to put the mainline through the loop before tying on the jig, and then use the plastic sleeve to snug the loop onto the eye of the jig.

By "mainline" i assume you mean the fluoro leader,

...and yes, I can see the advantage of not having to tie a short stinger direct to the jighead (fiddly) in a rocky boat, with cold hands, in lashing rain !

...that's why I have tied up several at home, with both stingers and fluoro leaders already attached. Wrapped each separately to prevent them shaking hands with each other in the lure box !

It was difficult enough tying one in my warm kitchen yesterday, my stingers came already made up so I thought I'd better make sure I could do it just in case I had to. Threading the lure and then tying the stinger equipped jighead to the fluoro mainline resulted in even more bloodshed so I'm seriously hoping that my three 50g setups will be enough for the day. I should have plenty of lures and I've a couple of 40g jigheads if need be.

Good point about the swivel and tip ring, my leader is about seven foot long to accommodate nibbling over the day and the swivel does crash through the tip ring, I'll shorten it a bit.

The forecast looks a little better, still wet but not constant rain.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

A small cross lok clip at the end of the leader does make life much easier when changing lures/jig heads.

The easiest way to attach a stinger is to stick one treble point in the lure and put the loop at the other end over the jig head eye. But as always there are lots of ways of doing it!

Yes the weather could be better (it's definitely going to be wet) but the wind speed and direction are both good so that's in our favour. Hopefully it'll be dry for the first couple of hours to let us get the boats set up and get out fishing.
