I have just had half a crusty baguette thick with Camembert that you spooned on. Delish.

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

nope; used to do a huge amount of dark age/ medieval re enactment... mead seemed only natural! lol

I've never made a simple mead, but I did make quite a lot of cyser from our apple trees (cyser = mead made with apple juice instead of water). Good stuff.

Sounds nice but honey is darned expensive unless you have bees yourself

So long as you dont add any type of refined sugar its pretty authentic as a real drink of yore

I think last time I got a massive jar of honey cheap from somewhere. Doesn't work out that expensive compared to alcohol duty, but obviously there are cheaper sources of fermentable sugar.

Works quite well with our apples, because they are a mixture of Bramley and some kind of cox type apples. Pure cider comes out a bit thin and tart, so the honey adds some body and some alcohol. Made some very strong sweet stuff too, that really works well.

The last big batch I made, I boiled the honey until it started to caramelise - fantastic sort of toffee apple flavour. That was a few years ago, I think we've just about run out of that now, but it was lovely.
