PB Tench - Probably

Nice tinca - I used to fish SP a lot until a couple of seasons back - a great after work venue. My best tench was 7-07 in 2011 and have had a few other 7s and big 6s. Also had a 12lb bream - float fishing maggots the same summer.

Had heard the place has had a bit of a scalping and lost some of its charm??

Catch any crucians?

And, in 2014, after FAS took over the venue.

A fair bit of tree clearance has taken place along with a gravel track all around the lake and all the close intimate swims that used to be a tight squeeze....now expanded to take you 2-bed luxury bivvy !!

Yes Chris, its lost its intimate charm for sure - the work is the most brutal I have ever seen - for some reason FAS thought double-bivvy sized swims that you can drive your car behind were needed on essentially a non-carp water. I guess on the upside I can now fish for named tench :-)

They also failed to appreciate that the water level drops in the summer and so the swims are now at least a meter above the water surface.

No sign of any crucians for me or my fellow SP anglers despite FAS allegedly restocking it - I caught a large bream last year too - not 12lb though! Its almost impossible to fish maggot though as there seems to have been an explosion of the whitebait population.

The micro rudd and perch were always a menace on magg - but after dark they seemed to disappear making it a realistic bait for something a little bigger - I had half a dozen bream over 8lb during my last summer on the water (2011.

Super Tench indeed! Congratulations.

That is rather sad what people do to some fisheries; I used to live very close to Yately but fished the gravel pits over at Farnborough and had some lovely early morning trips for Tench. They started to do the same on their waters; cutting entire swathes of trees back.

unfortunately when 70% of the clubs anglers are after carp then they have to be catered for or they go elsewhere ,the good side is though the less carp friendly waters with few carp in are left alone now we have new venues

when i first started fishing the lea you couldn't get round it ,now it has a nice path and swims where there were none before ,but the downer is the new pin took away some great swims you cannot cater for everyone unfortunately

No scales Steve - you know me! It was a quickie after work and I travel light.

Never mind the weight , that is a tench of the RIGHT SIZE to make a good evening's fishing.

As Chesters said, there is something about a tench..........

Thing is Chesters that there aren't any Carp to speak of in Summer - so I can't understand why they did it. Its also dangerous to return fish properly because there is no way of getting down to the waters edge because the new platforms are simply too high - I've already lost 2 pairs of glasses leaning over to mix me groundbait!
