Lovely looking reel tigger!

Thank's Viney, I liked the design of the reels when Chav first posted them a while back now. I know they won't be to a lot of peoples taste not being an aerial style. The reels seem to be prefered by the Canadians targetting Steelhead etc.

Check out how greedy the dace are, 12 maggots on a 14's animal...

I often fish for Barbel with a large bunch of maggots on the hook, one day on the Lea a long time ago a (relative) youngster (who mainly match-fished) watched me loading up a size 10 hook with maggots and said with some amazement, "will the fish take that?".

He was completely serious with the question and just couldn't believe that you could catch fish like that, he only ever used a single maggot and I think an 18 was largest hook he owned.

Nice looking reel: but I've got enough. :)

When I was a kid, anything bigger than a 16 was a "meat hook", and the subject of ridicule. We used to laugh at John Wilson with his "tiny little" size 14s!

It is funny how we used to use much smaller hooks and lighter lines back in the good old days. As you say a 14's hook was huge, I think my normal sized hooks where 20's and if I was looking at catching monsters an 18's :).

If you can catch all them fish in a couple of hours I

think I will move to the outer hebidies

Better book your transport then I'm surprised he took that long the river he was fishing on its day is lifting with fish and they don't tend to get hammered as it's an unfashionable little river but believe me it's very easy to have a remarkably good session on it and Tigger knows it well!

(Steve Walker) When I was a kid, anything bigger than a 16 was a "meat hook"

I too remember those "good old days" when match-fishing dominated the angling press as carp fishing does now

I have used hooks as small as #26 (to catch a ten-spined stickleback for my species list) and as large as #16/0 for common skate and shark and about every size of hook in between.

Heard something similar before - We were in an Australian tackle superstore in Perth, WA and Norma spotted a Tiagra 50 big-game reel. With small hands, she always had difficulty in spreading the line on our big Penn International II reels, but the Tiagra has a narrower drum.

"That's the reel I need"

(BTW I have a different problem to most anglers re buying expensive reels - whereas they seek to conceal an expensive purchase from their wives to avoid earache, I usually have to budget for getting two !)

The checkout girl's comment when she realised I was buying it for Norma

"That's big, round, gold and expensive - just what every girl wants !"

...but that Zeppelin is a nice looking reel Ian, and put to very good use.

...although I'm glad I have enough centrepins already :)

Thank's Neil and Dave. I know the looks of the reel won't appeal to a lot of anglers but I liked it the first time I saw it. I actually parted with some other nice reels to fund it but I think I made the right choice :).

Dave...it's great that you and Norma share your interest.....even though it means you have to buy two...brilliant ! :).
