The best pike fishing video ever.

There are about 1500 fatal drownings in the UK every year. Roughly 1000 of these happen within a few metres of safety.

In a large majority of cases a life jacket would have saved life.

Many people will think the idea of wearing life jackets as PC or "nanny state"

I have been a sea survival instructor and fast rescue boat instructor for the offshore industry. During that time I have worked and trained with, and have been trained by, members of the RNLI, RYA and The Royal Marines "Raider" Squadron SBS.

None of those guys would go afloat without a life jacket.

If it's good enough for them etc.

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Ah, that's the same experience that tells you when it's OK to use a flourocarbon leader, or when it's OK to kill and eat a fish, or whatever else...!

I think if there's a principle of legislating to the lowest common denominator it has to apply to everything, and particularly where human life is potentially put at risk...?

Yes totally agree. I was just admitting that Im not perfect! as are not most of us. It doesn't mean we shouldn't always try to promote the right thing though even if we are sometimes guilty ourselves of not doing it!"

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Again in total agreement. In the early Trout reservoir piking days many of the guys attending the "trials" / "fish ins"/ "culls" had no experience of piking from a boat on any water let alone a big reservoir. It was worrying to see the lack of watermanship and regard (appreciation?) of safety. This was mainly due to the obvious reason of in experience but also (sad to say) a rather cavalier attitude put on purely to impress/hide this inexperience.

One of my favourite anecdotes was the group of obviously new to boats anglers taking the **** out of Gord Burton for wearing a life jacket (incidentaly on a day where the wind was so bad we decided to cancel and not allow any of the anglers out!)...... They asked "Cant the Legend swim then Gord?" his dour but very poignient reply was "Yes, but my parka cant"........... and very true as well.

Two amazing pike, and lots of action, and a bit of ambience. NO boring us with details of tackle either.

Loved the quaint English of the sub-titles

"You could resemble the pike at crocodiles" :fishing::fishing:

Best quote since the Japanese instructions for a fixed spool reel " All go happy fish"

Liked the emphasis on the right weather for pike also.

Thanks Barry

I think that's the bench mark of a good specialist subject video John ie it can be enjoyed by all.

Tis true Budgie, but I have got to be one of the 'pickiest' when it comes to angling videos. I've watch quite a few recently, and mostly somethings annoyed me. It could be the presenter, the location, the species, the angler, anything at all. So when I say I enjoyed one, then you know I've really enjoyed it! :D

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Glad you all liked it.

These guys realy seemed to know what they were doing and were obviously well prepared, except maybe for the net (gotta get a bigger net).

There is every chance that the jackets they werte wearing had built in self inflating life jackets. Failing this a self inflating life jacket could be worn under a jacket.

I know they are regular equipment for ofshore sailing but are usually a flourescent colour.

If they are available in green/brown then I feel sure thats what they would have had.

Can't beleive that with all the top notch equipment they had including camera gear they would'nt have this sorted.
