Good find Den ,i have never seen one as far as i know

"bit shaky" thats tripod quality i tried to catch a buzzard yesterday and gave up by the time i erected the tripod itvwas just a noise behind the trees

Pity about the school next door though.

We have a nice garden but never sit in it ,the back one is to small and in the shade but the front is much bigger but i never go and sit in it i'm not there to entertain the neighbours

We have a big school about 200 yards away but never hear a thing until closing time when the brats use the little park opposite

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

Nice one Den, not the easiest thing to get a shot of as they never stop.

Saw my first ones up here about 5 years ago and again the following year, but not seen any since. I think the colder winters we have had lately must have knocked them back.

We (wife and dogs) tend to live in our conservatory almost all year round, and just outside the doors, a mass of Verbina (?) grow each year. Butterflies, bees and various other creatures love them and they are ideally situated for the tripod and camera with me behind :) The moths have visited us for the last 3 years to my knowledge, I spent some hours chasing one last year with pretty poor results, as you say Lutra, they don't stop still for long. It seems that the wind may have helped me as the moth had to fight it to keep station :)

Best year yet for butterflies, up to 7 tortoishells, peacocks, red admirals, large whites and commas all busy feeding at the same time, although the red admiral likes a lie in, we don't see him until the afternoons. Maybe the 6 metre strip that is not cultivated around the fields is having some effect, the bit behind us is a jungle of nettles and other stuff, asked the farmer not to cut them down, and he agreed :) Unbelievably some of our neighbours actually go out and mow it.

And the dragonflies that lay in the top pond (oh yes, we have two ponds :) )

Yes Verbena bonariensis by the look of it. Great insect plant. I've grown it from seed a couple of times and it does well for a couple of years, but then just dies out on me. Not sure if its just sort lived or its my soil (?).

Ours seems to seed itself almost anywhere, even round the front of the house now :) Just waiting for it to colonise the bank on the other side of the road .... tried to establish some other "weeds" there, but little success yet,
