Lure boxes

Just had a wander through my local Decathlon sports store and came out with yet another lure box. This one is a little different in that it has sufficient room for a small flask and sarnie plus compartments for everything from jerkbaits to swivels. Its a Plano Guide Series 1444 and Fosters of Birmingham have them for £39.95. Decathlon have them for £14.95...absolute bargain for lure, bait or float fishing on the move

Dear Lee, lures require a purpose built box however I do appreciate that pine wardrobes might be de rigeur north of Watford. Take off the doors and replace with chicken wire and you have a perfectly acceptable pigeon coop. Or with a little imagination, a half decent whippet cage. Nice to see you up and about again

regards

Other than getting it mail order from the US try looking in specialist tool/trade hardware stores. You often find Plano "tool" boxes that are the same (other than the colours) as the "fishing" models. They are substantialy cheaper.

I just wont buy Plano in this country for that reason.

On the subject of Decathalon, when I was working in France I would take my customers down to the local Decathalon each week.I noticed after a few years of doing this that they seemed to have an interesting ploy.As well as the very good prices on their main range they would often have in a handfull of "one off" items at excellent prices eg 6 or so pram type 2man bivvys at just over £120 each! Even better was that they would always have a "one off" item at a ridiculous price eg I once saw a Shimano lure rod for £12! I asked a friend of a friend who worked there and they said that items like the bivvies were genuine end of stock type items where the rod would be an intentionaly underpriced item to draw people in and encourage them to "root around" for possible bargains.I wonder if the Decathalon stores in this country have the same policy.

Out of interest the best bargain I ever saw was discontinued white Tshirts with a Decathalon Aniversary promotion type logo on them......they worked out at 10p each! my girlfriends son who was spending a months holiday with me brought loads of them reckoning it would be cheaper to wear them then throw them than washing his own ones!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I find it difficult to just window shop in Decathlon. Last weekend they had a pound box full of 5-6 quid flavourings and boilies. If I used the stuff I'd probably have bought the lot. Most of their fishing gear is brighly coloured continental style rods and reels.....the floats would look good on a Xmas tree, but there's loads of little gems hidden away if you care to look. Last summer I bought a self erecting bivvie for 25 quid only weighs about three pounds and folds completely flat...open the zip and its ready to walk into in 3 seconds. I opened it once in the dining room and failed to notice how it erected...vital for getting it back in the bag. Took three days to figure out.

The place is full of camping, hiking and climbing gear too...all good quality and no fancy prices. Just a shame that their on-line purchasing facility is not more wide ranging and user friendly
