Several hours swimming the stream today....

Don't blame you if it's the one I think it is. On my trip the river was quite benign but it was easy to see how you could get into trouble very quickly if the rain came down.

Tigger,

I guess I can't say it enough times - I enjoy your threads immensely. Reminds some of us old timers of days gone past. Of course, our fish were much bigger.

The photo of the damaged fish gives me the chance to get on one of my favorite soap boxes. Use ferrous hooks and change them often. Cyprids (most all of them) have chemicals that rust out a ferrous hook within 4 - 7 days.

Don't worry Phone

After being laid on the grass like that the fish will die long before the hook would rust out

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Nice one Ian.

I fished your Grayling stretch with Vaggers yesterday. It was running clear with a couple of foot of extra water on. Thats one powerful river, no way could I wade out, but we still got plenty from the bank and Dave said he had a lovely day.

I had a couple around the 2lb mark early on and thought I would get a pic or two for on here of the next good one. Fatal as despite getting plenty more none were much over a pound after that. Have you been on there this season yet Ian?

It was the first time I had fished that particular river and I enjoyed it very much. A proper trotting river with good manners - not like our Wealden rivers which twist and turn and don't let you trot very far before the float is round the next bend and out of sight. No - this river had nice long straight glides with even depth. Sort the depth out. Drop the float in about twelve feet out and it goes down the current staying twelve out. Plenty of action for most of the day with trout, grayling, and even a salmon parr. Nothing big landed, the only decent fish ran me to the opposite bank and then the hook pulled. That's reality as it should be - a strong reason to go back !

Thanks Brian for an enjoyable day.
