Depends. I've got a seat box, but I'll often take a folding chair and use the box as a table (and a rear rod rest). That's if I'm planning to sit in one swim all day. If I'm planning to rove about on a river I don't usually bother with the box or the seat. Light gear usually means a rucksack, a rod, landing net pole and rod rest bound together with velcro rod wraps and sometimes a net bag for landing net and bait.

And what about those (like me :) ) that take two box's and two seats, a spare (4th) rod, two landing net handles, and two of everything else "just in case"

And what about an unhooking mat???????

Err??

All of the above depends on where I am fishing, how i am fishing and what I am fishing for.

The poll effectively excludes much of my fishing - I often sit either on the ground (when its dry!) or on my unhooking mat, and just carry a made-up rod, a net, and said unhooking mat - the rest of my gear is in my pockets.

Anglers are easily persuaded to aquire and carry far too much gear - some tackle stockists even call it "luggage" - missing the unconscious irony in that word.

As most of my fishing is done on the river and longish walks are part and parcel of most days fishing, I try and carry as little as possible, which is always too much.

If I'm match fishing I take the lot. If i'm wandering along the river, I only take a Diawa cushion to sit on. Rod with made up stick float gear. Licence, Landing net, bait, two winders with made up sticks on, a packet of hooks and a some shot. Sitting in the undergrowth or standing in the river is all part of the experience. Trouble is that it only fishes for a couple of months each year and that depends on the weather. Too much or too little rain is the main problem.

I fish just like Vagabond. I knew that unhooking mat would come in handy for something.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
