Pyramid Lake, Nevada

I took a trip out to Pyramid Lake with my wife today, 25 miles north of Reno. It's the semi-salty remains of a huge ancient lake, located out in the desert on the Paiute Indian reservation. The Truckee river flows into it down from Lake Tahoe. I understand it's full of cutthroat trout that can get quite large. I'll probably give it a go next weekend if I have time; I need to bring a stepladder, waders, and a flyrod to fish the shoreline like the locals.

Oh yeah - the Paiutes charge $8.00 to fish daily. I don't think they take-um credit cards, though. biggrin.gif

Here's a guy standing on a stepladder, casting. We watched him land one fish.

Looking south. The lake is about 11 x 15 miles in area, and it gets very windy. I was told that it is not uncommon for boaters to be overturned due to the fact that storms strike quickly and there is absolutely no place to hide if you get caught on the water.

Looks like an interesting lake to fish. Still think I'd rather use a boat than a ladder though even with the storm situation.
