realy improve windows xp performance

first of all, this is a registry modification. when i went away on holiday the office systems went down "Sods law" so the boss got someone in to sort it out and at the time got him to upgrade our computers so i copied his hard drive when he let me borrow it to copy a few things like movies and software and the registry modification file and i realy need to say its wonderful

 

it appears i cant upload .reg files so ill need to paste it here. for your own peace of mind aswel you can kinda see what the file is doing from what ive pasted bellow just copy it to a blank text document and save it as xpimprove.REG

 

it basicly changes a lot of things in xp like the time it takes to refresh windows menus and the start menu basicly a crap load of small things you dont ever notice and aids in speeding up xp

 

if you feel a bit worried it might hinder your system only use it on windows xp not anything else or you can wait for other tech buffs to confirm this modification is safe. make a backup of your registry aswel. also there are some notes in the code which describe exactly what its doing

and that matters because ?. if you don't have any positive feedback regarding the registry modifications don't even bother posting

 

try to help and thats the thanks you get. i might not even bother next time.

 

 

alnath that is true but who would really want to go through all those options and manually edit them. single double click of the xpimprove.reg file will do it instantly.

 

im just wondering why you would rather pluck your eyes out than apply the reg modification. id rather cut my balls off than manually troll through windows xp finding those settings to change them as it would take days. more than 50% of the settings are not accessible through xp also.

I can see the point of many of them, but to be honest, I wouldn't recommend applying them unless you know what each setting is for and what the cost of doing it is. You're turning off some functionality, which is fine if you know that you've turned it off and how to turn it back on.

 

For instance;

 

Reducing the amount of time that Windows waits before terminating hung apps is fine if they are really hung, but if they're merely unresponsive while they save their state before closing, it may result in loss or corruption of data.

 

Automatically ending tasks on shutdown (instead of waiting and displaying a dialog) likewise; if I turned that on, I would corrupt my mail database on a regular basis, because my mail client often causes that dialog to be shown and ending it invariably corrupts the file.

 

Forcing DLLs to unload will speed up a memory-poor system, but will slow down one with plenty of RAM.

 

Disabling 8.3 file name support will break some older applications.

 

Disabling warnings about unsigned drivers and the lack of firewall or antivirus protection is potentially very risky if you don't know that you've done it.

 

I would consider using Andy's file if I needed to perk up a very old and slow machine, but I would make sure I understood what all of those changes do first. I wouldn't apply it to my main PC.

and that matters because ?. if you don't have any positive feedback regarding the registry modifications don't even bother posting

alnath that is true but who would really want to go through all those options and manually edit them. single double click of the xpimprove.reg file will do it instantly.

 

im just wondering why you would rather pluck your eyes out than apply the reg modification. id rather cut my balls off than manually troll through windows xp finding those settings to change them as it would take days. more than 50% of the settings are not accessible through xp also.

 

 

I think I will keep my eyes and my B0ll0cks,
