Straightening Peacock?

Had some Peacock quill in my garage for some time now and on the hope I make the Wingham list am looking to make some extra long wagglers, Last time I made this style float was in my youth for fishing windy drains and I seem to remember gently "waving" the bent quill over a naked flame, Is this o.k or are there any better methods?

Warm water. Bend the quill and plunge into cold water.

Play the stem briefly over the steam from a boiling-kettle spout, then plunge into a bowl of cold water.

Hold over a form of heat, needs to be quite high and if possible moist.

Straighten out the quill by bending in the opposite direction to it's original curve.

Once held in the heat source for a short while immerse in to a cold liquid such as water.

Hopefully this will do the trick.

Jeez. So much stupid "side" and petty ego in the Wonderful World of Internet Angling.

 

I was using the steam method for straightening peacock quill forty years ago as a float-making boy. I was doing the same just yesterday.

 

You try to help .. some **** takes umbrage...
