Funny you should mention leather as the smell. At 7 years old I first went fishing and we would buy 10p worth of maggots at the leather shop in harrogate. And guess what it smelled of!

 

We got a carton with half a handfull of sawdust and some turning maggots...we used to bin the crispy brown ones as they were no good We would also buy some mustad hooks ...size 18 eyed ...31380 I think the number was ....we could get 10 for 5p.

 

The following week we still had the same 10p worth but we had to hold challenges to see how many minnows we could get on one maggot as they were getting to b in short supply cos me mum would not let em in the house...never mind in the fridge!

 

Ah the good old days!
