54-12 new carp record at Wingham!

This is the mirror that came out at 53-02 in the Spring so it's already way over its pre-spawn weight! It was born at Wingham so I've no idea of how old it is or how much more it'll grow. But as it's grown almost 10lbs in justover 3 years even I'm getting exited now!

A picture and lots more catches including tench and bream can be found on the latest news page on the Wingham Fisheries web site (link below in my signature).

Steve,

How near its genetic potential LENGTH do you reckon?

Phone

I've no idea, Phone, as none of the captors have measured its length. It wasn't a fish I stocked so it was born at Wingham. Without taking a scale I don't know how old it is and how much more it's likely to grow in spine length. By the way, it's a female.

However I did witness and measure the length of our biggest common when it came out in the summer at 49-02 (this is the one that reached 50-11 in the Spring). This had a length from its nose to the fork (not tip)of its tail of 38ins and a girth of 30ins. The length was measured next to the fish rather than along its lateral line. This is exceptional for a UK carp that as you know aren't usually long and slim like most US ones.

I always refuse to predict how big the Wingham carp are likely to grow but, as I said earlier, even I'm getting excited now.
