what exactly was the message you received, and what piece of software gave you the message?

spybot and adaware are good places to start, not much gets past them, but i'm concerned that if you haven't got any such software installed, what gave you the message?

Looks like a scam to me, your homepage has simply been changed to a dodgy 'warning' site and no doubt the 'official intrusion detection system (IDS software)' will carry a price tag.

get yourself adaware and spybot, plus windows defender if you can (all the places to get them from are googleable) and you'll be safe and secure without

soending a penny

I had one of these 'Malaware' infection recently. I've no idea how it got onto my PC, but it was infuriating. It kept giving messages about Spyware infections and directing me to buy their offering of corrective software. It also hijacked my home page. It took ages to get rid of it and I had to use three separate tools to do so, as instructed in post #2 here.
