win xp problem

Si...

Recommended Posts

Specs:

Win XP Pro w/SP2

AMD Athlon 64 3500

2GB RAM

nVidea 6600 GFX card

I went to reboot my PC but as soon as I clicked on the shutdown button a BSOD (blue screen of death) appeared for less than a second and the PC shutdown instantly.

Now whenever I try to bootup the pc it gets as far as the loading screen then it just turns black and nothing further.

I`ve tried to reboot it several times with the same result, loading screen, then the black screen.

Anyone have any ideas on how to repair this?

Oh nothing has been installed lately, or anything changed either.

I`ve even tried to put winXP on another drive, but it doesn`t see the files, it shows a blank drive, which is weird as theres over 40GB of stuff on the drive that fails to loads up properly.

Hi Si

This is no help to you, but that is exactly what was happening with mine before I ditched XP.

Is it a genuine XP or slightly "dodgy"? Did you run windows update recently?

If you can, in safe mode or from a dos prompt

Try un-installing the nVidea 6600 GFX drivers, it worked on my AMD system.

Found that the original drivers on the disc supplied, dont work I let windows auto discover & used windows version drivers no problem since.

Well it worked for me.
