As some of you may have heard, the Angling Trust and other "sport" anglers are trying to get UK recreational bass fishing restricted.

A lot of people who like to pop out for a day "on the bass" and bring home a few fish to eat aren't too happy. The AT and another petition that the AT are pushing are calling for 80% restrictions !

i think that that is absolutely reprehensible....hence the petition.

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

This all comes from an ICES report claiming that the Bass take should be reduced by 80%. Having read the report and balanced it with a CEFAS report of bass nursery surveys in the Solent and sea surface temps over the last 30 years I can see no apparent decline in bass stocks. In fact, SSB (spawning stock biomass) has not been higher in recorded bass catch analyses than it has been for the past twenty years. Ok, there was a blip to below 10,000 tons this year but the basis of low recruitment cohorts is based on some very spurious data (surveying the Solent nursery areas and ignoring 0 class fish!)...only age class 1-4 fish appear to be used in the ICES estimates! Not fish that would be targeted by anglers or commercials...and they haven't surveyed for them elsewhere as far as I can see.

 

If 80% catch restrictions are implemented on commercials and RSA alike it'll be off to Tesco for bass for tea (farmed) unless you're lucky enough to leave near a decent bass area. Currently, the Truss are pushing how good the Irish RSA only fishery is, so good in fact they are thinking about reducing the bag limit from 2 fish to 1 fish a day....I think I know what's coming!....been there, seen it, done it!

A current "anglers" survey doing the rounds is asking for an 80% restriction, also being supported by the Truss, no mention of not restricting anglers! The original petition actually asked for an 80% restriction on bass caught, not landed or taken, I had to ask the bloke to alter it...which he did, if that had been accepted (and the Truss said nothing) that could have meant an 80% restriction on ang ling effort....much easier for the govt. to just say NO to any RSA bass fishing at all!

 

Anyway, that's why I have posted my petition, i doubt it will do well whilst the other one is up. I should imagine that too many people are automatically assuming that a restriction on bass landings of 80% will only affect commercials....sad really as apparently, RSA land about a third of UK caught bass!

According to what Worms quoted elsewhere, they've already said that their priority is what is good for the trust, not what is good for anglers.

:doh: That's because they're a bunch of self serving autocrats and as long as they draw a wage, they're happy. :hammer: . :doh:
