Wingham Catch Report

first time i have heard anyone describe canterbury with "wonderfull" and "day" in the same sentence as theres nothing to go to the town for (i couldnt even find a battery for my camera)

I assume you were referring to Canterbury New Zealand. :-)

Canterbury is a lovely town full of excellent shops as well as much historical interest. This is evidenced by the fact that you hardly hear a word of English in the summer or if you do it's with an American accent.

I caught a pike at Wingham!!!!! Small but a pike for sure. Looking forward to bigger pike at Fritton.

On the 2nd leg of our trip with Vagabond and Norma. Rain, rain, rain and then more rain but having a great time. Stories being swapped by all.

Thanks to all at Wingham who made our stay so memorable!

I caught a pike at Wingham!!!!!

I think that they heard your yells of delight back in Canterbury Jan :)

(All the pike headed over to the far side of the lake after that!)

Here's the bare facts as of lunchtime today for those who filled in the scoresheet - some are fishing to the bitter end! I'll add any late catches to this post, but leave it to the individuals to tell their own stories!

Jan - 1st ever pike, and on a lure too!

Newt - 1st ever pike, and on a lure too!

Vidar - a pike of, if I remember correctly, about 10lbs.

Cliff 63 - an eel of 2-08.

Meatballs - a PB tench of 9-13, plus 3 others of 7-03, 7-03 & 6-01.

Andrew Burgess - a PB tench of 6-14.

Budgie Burgess - a PB bream of 15-13, plus a tench of 7-13.

Paul Mc - a pike of 7lbs.

Chris Mc - a PB tench of 8-02 plus a pike of 10½lbs.

Jedibond - a PB tench of 8-02 plus another of 7-00.

Bad Excuse for an Angler - a pike of just under 10lbs and a 2oz rudd.

John Block - a PB eel of 4-00 & others of 2lbs and 1½lbs.

Rob Ward - a PB bream of 16-06, plus a tench of 6-00.

3 Doors Down - a PB tench of 7-12, plus others of 6-02 and 5-09.

Jigotai - a PB tench of 8-00 plus another of 7-12, plus a PB eel of 3-08.

Boilie Dangler - a PB perch of 3-00, plus pike of 15lbs & 11lbs.

Anderoo - a PB perch of 3-05 plus others of 3-03, 3-02, 2-13 & 0-06, plus a 2lb tench, plus 6 double figure pike to 15lbs.

Leon - a perch of 10ozs.

The drop in temperature plus the wind and rain ruined any chance of repeating last week's huge bags of tench, and I was fearing the worst. However, those of you who had fish in front of you really rose to the occasion!

Many congratulations to all who caught PBs!

Many thanks to Peggy for the BBQs, plus the bailiffs, Terry and Glyn in particular, for all their hard work both before and during the weekend. Thanks also to all the others who contributed - you know who you are!

Chesters and Peggy..perhaps Jan was referring to the good company she had with her on her "wonderful day in Canterbury" :)

I'd just like to add my thanks to everyone else's to Steve, Peggy, Terry & Glyn for all the good work done at Wingham and allowing me to fish there. Although the weather was against us, I think everyone will agree that it's been a fantastic weekend and Wingham is a truely wonderful place to fish.

Roll on next year's fish in !

Den, I'm leaving bits and pieces all over the place. My gortex jacket and the light tip of my new rod are at Wingham - thanks Budgie for transporting them to fritton for me. Do you want to send it back to the States or perhaps send it on to Alan Fawcett's where I can get it. I'll PM you his address if that's okay.

Still raining but will be off fishing at 5:00am to learn 'Vagabond style'. Will be a memorable adventure, I'm sure.
