Olive buzzer tying problem.

Recommended Posts

This morning I tied a couple of olive buzzers to take with me this afternoon.

After tying I thought ' they look alright'. Then I put on Hard as Nails. Now I've got almost black buzzers. The olive green thread has darkened a lot, I guess by absorbing the HAN.

Please tell me how I can stop my olives turning black.

Superglue, it isnt absorbed as much as the nail varnish; but the tying thread will still darken.

After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.

Hi Tony,

Just tied another and tried 'Black Spur' superglue still turned olive thread almost black.

Perhaps wrong make of super glue?

Surely somebody out there knows the answer - please.

What sort of tying thread/body material are you using a nylon based thead or floss would be best?

You could always make the body out of flexi floss or olive dyed stripped Peacock herl, which will not absorb the glue or varnish.

Thanks Tony - that's probably the problem.

I'm using an 'old' olive thread out of my fly tying box, not even pre-waxed thread etc.

I'll get some nylon thread which is less likely to absorb varnish etc.

I'll let you know the result - cheers.

Let' see a picture of the results you can always use your scanner to get an image of the flies.
