Too cryptic for me that one, gimme a clue.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

To those of you who are quite openly homophobic, how do you know just who to discriminate (not provide professional services in this discussion) against. Do you have some infallable 'gaydar' ? You may be able to identify some because they make it clear or tell you, but ther are lots of LGBT people who simply blend in with wider society. It's no good relying upon worn out old stereotypes, even an apparently camp and effeminate man may not be gay at all, and you can't dub them as such unless you actually see them doing gay things together.

I worked for 5 years managing a project to support young LGBT people (my last full time job) and part of the role, along with other agencies was to help repair broken young people. During all that time I never dealt with anyone who had been damaged by preditory adults, but there were lots whose lives have been made a misery by homophobic and transphobic bullying by both supposed grown ups and other young people. It was especially sad that some of them were not LGBT people at all but some other person(s) had decided that they were quite sure that they were, and acted against them accordingly.

Too cryptic for me too.

Emma, I usually ignore what you have to say, you are as biased as I am. How do you arrive at the conclusion that I should be ashamed of my normal homophopic views? And as for the "old fart" dig, I just have to laugh it off, would it be OK for me to call you "queer" in return? Old fart probably describes me quite well, I am old and sometimes fart as well, most people fart on occasions so that was a waste of words on your part, I am also old so you were at least correct there, but wasted as an insult.

Furthermore, I don't need to defend my attitude to life, I am normal, queers/poofs/arse bandits/ brown hatters or whatever they are, are not "normal" they are an aberration and in the rest of the animal world would probably have disappeared from the gene pool by now. Filthy practise, which you condone, and you have the nerve to call me shameless!

I've got plenty of mates, fished with loads of guys, often overnight in a tent or bivvy, Christ, I even once spent a night in a motel with Leon :) , but the sad case is that nowadays when I meet up with a bloke on the beach and he "wants a chat" then I quickly make mention of "the wife", wouldn't want him to think I was "one of those" :)

Just read your last post....what the hell is "openly homophobic" ?

Should be interesting to see how many words are deleted from this post :)

Steve, I actually don't give a damn, just that I get a bit annoyed when I keep being told that I am intolerate! if they didn't keep banging on about how I must accept them. As I said before, it is a filthy practise.

I've a confession to make, during my time working away from home I often shared a room with one of my workmates. He seemed a decent sort of chap, a bit quiet, but a good worker, and a laugh after we'd had a few drinks. After I'd been working for the firm a year or so, I found out that he was gay. Should I be relieved, or feel insulted that he never made a grab for my arse? After all it seems that popular opinion is that if a man is gay, he is also a sex maniac, and will pounce on anything in, or out of, trousers.

We also had a 'flasher' when I was a kid, he used to do the stereo-typical whip open his raincoat thing. Mostly we just laughed, or threw things at him. I, and as far as I'm aware, none of my mates at the time, had nightmares, or were so disturbed that it cast a shadow over the rest of our lives, he was just a dirty old perv' to us.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Did I say I had nightmares? or feel threatened in any way? Did I say they were sexmaniacs? I don't think or feel anything much at all about them, but if one had approached any of my boys then I would have reacted quite strongly. A group of us teenagers tipped the local queers car over when he made a pass at one of the young brothers, and would probably have given him a clump or two if we had caught him.

Gays don't help themselves one bit by continually flaunting themselves by these "conventions" and various other gatherings, coming out with more demands and generally making a lot of noise. They then seem surprised that people like me react. Normally I don't give a toss what they get up to, just stop telling me that it is "normal" and that I have to accept them.
