Went down to Amroth Friday morning to practice getting back in the kayak :( ,how the hell do you do it.

I could just about get back in with the water at chest height but when I was out of my depth I couldn't get enough lift, and after 3/4 of an hour of trying I felt knackered. is there some technique that I should know about or is it just down to loads of practice.

The good part of the day came later when I managed to catch my first bass from a kayak :clap2: both around 3lb caught just before high water, kept the first and returned the other to fight another day, really easy to C & R from a kayak isn't it, don't even need to handle the fish.

Hope this helps..Try & get a user-friendly buoyancy aid, a lot of them are over foamed at the front to allow swimming on your back - not ideal for kayaking!www.oceankayak.com

Tpw,

I'm just down the road from Amroth, if you'd like to pratice I'll come down and show you what works with you and your kayak. Biggest problem down there is getting to deep enough water to practice...400 yards out and you can still stand up!!! :D

I'll PM you my phone number, give me call anytime and we'll arrange a meet...I could do with a practice too anyway!

All the Best,

Rich
