I had a fantastic days fishing yesterday. It would have been even better if I had caught something! :)

What made a day with no fish so good?

First the venue - Stunning!!

See here:

The scenery was fantastic, even by Scottish standards

The company:

I went by my self, no-one else to please :)

The tackle

I was trying out a new rod I have just finished, an 8'6" 2 wt. Weighs in at just 2.2 Ozs complete.

With a Wulff triangle taper line it is better than I hoped. Now all I need is a super lightweight reel to go with it.

The Weather

Blazing sunshine, not a cloud in the sky. Great weather for messing about in boats, terrible for trout fishing.

It's why I didn't catch (my story and I am sticking to it)

So what did I learn from my day

You can enjoy the day without catching (one little one wouldn't have hurt though :) )

I want an electric outboard for my birthday!!!!!!!

To fish properly from a boat you need a proper boat seat, or at least a cushion :(

I'm going back in a month or two when the trout are likely to be a bit more co-operative. :)

Only fished it twice many moons ago.

The old boatman (can't remember his name now) told us to get the really big fish , you were better to fish as early into the season as possible, but beware March and April can be like the arctic.

We were tackleing up when he seen me puting on a 4lb leader (I like the dry fly), "NO,No, not on here son" he says. We found out later why when we saw all the tree stumps. We had 3 or 4 fish about 1.5lbs and did they go.

Should mention that before we went out he took us into the boat shed and opened the freezer. "I don't do a lot "he says " but I got these 2 last night". 1 at 4lb the other about 3lb.

Sadly when we went back the following year he had pasted away, didn't seem the same.

great to hear someone can enjoy fishing without killing half a dozen rainbows.

I hope your next trip is blessed by a couple of nice brownies, and if not, always remember.......

A bad days fishing is still better than a good day atyour work ;)
