My girlfriend is a Christian and I hate to see her upset by the wars in Israel.

She believes when Jesus comes back to Earth he will come back to Israel, be a shame if some chap from Tipton pressed the button eh? :(

To the best of my knowledge, these are accurate.

You may as well have added "considering I haven't bothered to consult any impartial sources". I've snipped the following from here: http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/observer/archi...ps_for_the.html, which you may consider to be biased in the other direction, but Britannica is usally accepted as a reasonable source of facts, rather than "facts".

"In response to Parisa's July 29 numbered comments, misleadingly called ISRAEL AND JERUSALEM FACTS. There are a number of factual errors and not enough space to deal with them all, but points 3 and 4 are particularly wrong.

According to the Encylclopedia Brittanica, Jerusalem was only ever under Jewish rule during the following relatively brief periods of its 3 and a half millenium history, starting from 15th century BC. : From 1000BC to 922 BC when they lost to the Egyptians and again from 786 to 701 BC when they lost to Assyria and finally from 167 BC to 63 BC when they were defeated by the Romans. The major owners of Jerusalem were the Egyptians (about a thousand years), the Assyrians (about 200 years), Greeks and Romans (about 800 years), then Muslims (about 600 years), Christian Crusaders (11 years), Turks (400 years) and the British (116 years). Throughout this entire period the main occupants of this site have been the local "Arabs", who have been denied the right to call this land their own. In 1948 the British gave away land they could no longer afford to own to another people who hadn't owned it since 63 BC. It is interesting that this was a direct descendent of earlier British anti-semite legislation (the "Balfour Declaration" ) at the beginning of the century to expel Jews back to "Israel".

Point 15 is also very strange, in that it identifies the very large number of UN security council and general assembly resolutions that Israel has broken. Doesn't this signify that Israel has a history of being a rogue state, instead of Parisa's illogical and paranoid conclusion that the rest of the world is against poor little Israel?

Parisa did not state where she got her facts, but it is always a good idea to quote your sources and references. In this case mine was the Encylclopedia Brittanica in the article on Jerusalem."

I'm really glad you posted that DavyR, it's saved me a lot of hassle, I'll content myself with a couple of links.

Chronology of Palestine history

Palestine facts

The first link is likely to be biased towards Palestine, but the chronology should be accurate.

The second link appears to be neutral.

you forgot to mention modern isreal was foisted on the arabs and only to quell the murders and acts of terrorism commited by jews ,what lives by the sword dies by the sword.

30 (ish) UN mandates against isreal have been totally ignored .

the deaths of the people in that building and the attack on the un building come ten years after a 100 were killed in another un building in the same area.

the kidnapping of 2 isrealy soldiers is an excuse to attack jordan not a reason and had they released some prisoners in an exchange as what first was wanted all this would have never happened.

human life (unless its jewish) has no meaning to jews ,since they are "gods chosen" people it then means everyone else isnt and hense of no value. ;)

hezbollah and the jordan state don't do each other favours ,jordan should "enroll" hezbollah "fighters" as special forces (such as we do with gurka's etc)under the general umberella of the army meaning isreal has declared war on jordan and not hiding under the excuse of routing out "terrorists" (handy term nowadays)

Wouldn't be the first time (that happened immediately the state of Israel was declared, in 1948). The arab nations have usually come off second best, though, which is probably why Iran wants a nuclear programme so badly. I wonder if Israel would be a state today had it not been for the West's collective outpouring of sympathy (and guilt) following the Holocaust?

Odd how the Jews have found themselves on the receiving end of pogroms in almost every country they've settled in over the centuries, in that case. These were often sparked by tales of Christian children being sacrificed for use in their religious rites. <_<

I second ayjay in thanking you Davy, I had a couple of links I was going to post but no need now.

I am very wary of 'facts' about who was where B.C. because much of the information is based on the writings in the religious books of the time, in this case the Old Testament. The 'facts' are often quoted with bias towards the religion concerned.

This looks to me like another chain letter/e.mail that is designed to stir up anti Arab feeling, and in doing so prolong any actions taken to try and bring about a peaceful conclusion.

Well for what it's worth I pretty much hate the Israelis these days, or at least I hate their actions. It also really saddens me to see the US suck up to them the way they do. If y'all love em that much, let them go and build thier 'settlements' in Utah. I know that if I were a Palestinian I would probably be in Fata or Hamas. I certainly would not 'roll over and take it' like Blair and Bush think they should.
