Very much a beginner - Help needed

I can highly recommend Longshaw farm. It's a good mixed fishery with tench, some clonking roach, a few bream and carp. It's certainly a good place to go and get bites and learn the basics. The owners are nice too and should be able to help you out with going swims, techniques etc. Day tickets are about £6.

Phone number is 01227 710263. If you want to look up a map the postcode is CT3 4ND.

As to the difference between rear and front drag reels - there's not a lot to choose between them. Some prefer rear drag as they find them easier to adjust whilst playing a fish. Personally I use a combination of a drag set fairly slack and finger pressure on the spool, so that aspect doesn't bother me.

Front drag reels are more compact, but there seems to be a lot more choice (especially in the lower price ranges) of rear drag models at present (fashion, maybe?).

You wouldn't go far wrong with a Shimano Alivio or Exage to go with your Hyperloop rod. Shimano also do a Hyperloop reel that is cheaper still. Okuma models are also great value for money.

But, as everyone says, a good tackle shop will sort you out! :)

Timothy are you all sorted out yet? If not I live in Ashford and would be more than happy to help you out with tackle selection and a few places to go.

Yeah get a Shimano reel.

I am new, and had the same question, but the 2 shops I went to the guys advised me to get Front drag.

I got a front drag, but I don't think it makes a huge difference, its more a personal preference thing.

The Hyperloop Shimano gets an excellent review int he mag clipping i've got, but I got a Nexave which was 30 quid, the Hyperloop is like 17 quid?

Don't pay more than 30 sheets, it probably aint worth it as begginer stage.
