wireless printer connection from an older ipad

Hi everyone, hope you having an nice Christmas. I am staying a few days with my uncle and auntie

My auntie got an iPad where she does most of her internet surfing and friends communications. A couple years ago my uncle brought an wireless printer (hp 3050a printer) from a well know shop. The person told my uncle that it will work from an iPad.

 

I made the effort to see them at chrismas. I gone through on what I know but haven't got good idea about the iPad. I have tried looking to see where "printer icon" but nothing shows up. Tried connection the wireless printer from manual instructions and not getting anywhere as getting wps error on the printer display. I got a feeling if there a fault in the printer side?

 

I would be grateful if anyone can help me but bear in mind not I am not use to iPad either and on working from my internet phone at the moment.

My daughter prints from her iPad to my Canon MG4250 using an Apple function called Airprint which is part of the software, not an add on. I think it might need an Airprint enabled printer (follow link in the link)

If its an hp printer i use hp eprint ,my hp is connected via ethernet cable to my router but i can print to it using wireless even though its not a wireless printer

To print from iPad the printer needs to be "AirPrint" enabled.

I don't think think the 3050 is.

In which case you will need a third party app to do so.

When you mean third party app - do mean downloaded the hp eprint?

There are several out there...some will do generic printers like Fingerprint which simply connects any printer on a PC to allow it to print from iPads etc.

Hp eprint needs an eprint compatible printer or one that supports direct wifi print. Again I'm not sure if the 3050 does...you'll have to check.

Solutions like fingerprint rely on having a pc unit turned on to allow printing.

Did you solve the wps error. Remember wps button on both printer and router need to be pressed. I normally just set these up manually though.

 

After its connected to the router and your setting it up in which ever app rather than use ip address i set it as the printers host name which doesnt change.

 

To get host name these new printers come with a settings page accessible via a browser by its local ip address (http://192.168.x.x) you can get that from the printer if it has option on the printer to print out a wlan status, infact you can probably get host name from that too.

Hp eprint lets me print to my c5180 which isnt wireless but obviously compatible ,i think the ethernet connection is probably the key and its connection to the router rather than the pc.

I wish i could use my laserjet 6mp the same way but its connected via infra red so technically wireless but via an obselete bit of technology

Strange such a device designed to be capable of printing via a network has so little scope of doing so today

 

My mrs prints using her ancient phone via bluetooth to her little kodak something or other ,thermal printer so each print although brilliant expensive!

 

My playbook resists all attempts to print anywhere using anything LOL

No other way of connecting a printer server to it chesters ? I got one for my old office that used a black and white photocopier with a serial connection.

 

Basically turned serial into ethernet for printing over the network.

Yes very possibly but not worth the effort ,i hope to give it away to someone and replace it with an A3 printer but found no-one willing to take it in my limited circle of friends as mono printers go its still viable and spares and toner plentiful ,hate to scrap it so it may outlive me

No ethernet connections left on my router and my wireless extender ethernet connection also used so without spending money on a switch? Not on my immediate list

 

I did use it on a parallel to usb dooda but its not stable and hp drivers like stable!
