Seems like Franz Fischler isn`t messing about? He`s only reccomended the scrapping of 80% of the European fishing fleet!!!

Leon. I`ve read the proposals, such as they are.

But what still scares me stiff, is?

The "subject to national governments` approval" rider!!

Is there going to be another, final fudge, by politicians more interested in votes than in conservation of fish-stocks?

20,000 jobs to be lost in our fishing industry?

That`s about the number of firemen that John Prescott wants to get rid of!

What`s more important. A fire appliance turning up in time, or the price of fish?

Yeah... but 'Prizefighter' Prescott used to be a cook on a fishing boat - chances of getting anything through this govt. that will protect fish stocks at the detriment of fishermen is zero!

SO, do we all put all of ours back?

I remember some years ago talking to a guy on Blyth pier who was complaining about overfishing, but kept everything he pulled out of the water.

Just a thought...We could protest as a body. What about a huge winter fish-in / festival on the East Coast, convened at some place with a number of handy pubs/tackle shops nearby? The sight of thousands of anglers occupying the beaches for a few months and catching everything in the locality would ram the point home surely.
