I am having problems with Internet Explore "having to close down" during browsing sessions and not shutting down when I turn the PC off.

I have no virii and regularly clean any spyware.

The PC is only a few months old and I don't need the aggro of reinstalling everything.

If I move to Firefox do I have to uninstall Internet Explorer, or can I leave it there in case I can't get on with Firefox ?

except for in the unlikly event someone downloads a virus in the form of porn then ie gets hit all the freakin time opening up automaticly and downloading even more, if only we could uninstall it without screwing other things up we would possibly never get infected. scratch that get a mac

ok jimpy i dont know what your problem is with me and telling me to get a life, i have a stable job working in a letting agency earning £6 an hour i go fishing every saturday or sunday i have people around me who love and need me, also i breathe i have a pulse and my heart is beating.

you want proof then here you go

download firefox install it then use internet explorer or firefox and when you get the popup to download an exe install it or if you dont want to go to an illegal site start surfing the advertisments you get

Ie is never doing nothing it is in use all the time and telling firefox to use firefox as default will do jack except when you open links its opened in firefox but spyware can still use Ie because its targeting it. its never disabled

you see the thing with the spyware and viruses use internet explorer because its so rubbish with security and if the software it has installed can open IE and redirect it to other spyware websites, even telling you you are infected and goto this website and download a spyware remover which is spyware its self, the reson you havnt seen it on tech sites is because they probably havnt mentioned it.

thank you

As an addendum to this discussion, I installed Mozilla Firefox 3 days ago and am using it exclusively for browsing the Internet.

Today, my PC was on, but not being used and I got the message that, "Windows Explorer was experiencing problems and had to close, with the send error report, or not, option".

How spooky is that ?

I have exactly the same problem, i use IE to download XP updates via automatic download.

After consulting many experts, they have found a conflict in services, between IE6 & automatic download service & Background intelligent transfer service.

After turning off automatic download service IE6 works, but then cant keep up with critical updates.

Anyway changed to firefox, use windizupdate for XP updates left automatic updates off, works a treat,(still have IE6 installed but ignore it)

Had to re-install printer but after reboot restore worked ok
