The Daily mail?

The Angling times ?

What does anyone expect when the Daily Mail discusses immigrants?...They supported Hitler FFS.

Dogfish, I used The Daily Mail article to highlight the E.A position on the matter.

Andy Thomas, fishing technical specialist for the Environment Agency Hampshire,

"At the moment it appears to be more of a perceived problem than an actual problem, there aren't hordes of people plundering our inland waters"

I accept that LT.

I was simply pointing to the fact that many people's perceptions are fashioned by the media...and that can be a bit dodgy to say the least.

The other day someone started a thread about their area ( in which I also live and fish) and trotted out the story about Immigrants claiming to use Harpoons to catch mussels..... That story has been doing the rounds for ages and has been discussed on here before....only then it was in a different area

I suspect many of these stories are media driven. I have never seen any problem in the places I fish.

I wonder how many others have actually seen anything at all?

Have not read all the posts, but someone said i wonder how many have actually seen.

I guess its down to regions, where its happening, im in london, where i guess there is alot more of it going on, i see it every weekend i fish. the same guy trying to take fish, and the fish scales from those who have fished through the night.

long trotter, i said about police call out times, and crimes, what they come out for.

you gave me a crime stoppers number. ok, if i know a guy is down there tomorrow, the same guy, i will ask if he has a license, if he says no, i will call your crime stoppers number, and report the crime as you said. and i will let the forum know the outcome.

whether any one turns up or not.

would you say this is a fair way to go about things, after all a crime is a crime as you said and all crimes are logged.

Sean, Don't phone crimestoppers. If you are in Harrow you are in the Met police area, click this link give them a ring and ask for advice what to do. Wildlife crime is not my thing these guys are specialists http://www.met.police.uk/wildlife/

Or drop them a e-mail wildlife@met.police.uk

If you would have took the time to read the thread which you started you would have seen the Advice given mate

All im bothered about is stopping this happening, you said about police times, stats all get logged and treated the same.

so now your telling me that one crime is for that, and one crime is for this. is a crime not a crime.

i said i would tell you what i saw everyday about response times. you said you would PM but never did, but gave me a number.

now you say phone a different number, or email them, how do i do that on the bank side.

no, i have not read every post, but my last 2 post are reply to what you have advised me.

hope now, that we can all see the confusion, this one topic that we all care about can cause, the what to do, who to phone, who will respond, will anyhting be done.

Sean, nip back and read the whole topic and you will see how it all makes sense. http://www.met.police.uk/wildlife/ use this link

To be honest if you have have issues with Police respone times in your area take it up with the Met Police.

If you don't feel your getting anywhere and you want to complain Contact the Chairman of the Police Authority.

LT as a serving police officer I have another question for you;

How many times do you know of when the police were called out by anglers for reported fish thefts have they responded with their presence and was there a successful prosecution?

I ask because my current understanding of the situation is the police do not respond and state it is not within their remit.

So instead of the official EA baliffs trying to get round waters, they can wait for calls from anglers as community baliffs, and respond more quickly. im sure these eastern europeans dont want to be caught breaking the law as they are here on visa's,

its just a thought, what do you all think.

sean

Sadly mate, you have just seen a perfect example of why one or two members of this site no longer bother to post anything that might help to preserve UK angling or fish. You presented a perfectly reasonable suggestion, you never said it was the answer but threw it open for discussion in the hope of a solution to the problem emerging. What happened? Numerous letters telling you why it won't work, numerous notes that have no bearing on what you suggested and a couple of replies from guys who appreciated the sense of what you are saying; but no reasonable alternatives to your suggestion. It really is unfortunate that so many posters on this site have far more interest in trying to appear to be sages than they have in trying to preserve the sport they profess to love.
