I thought I would take a look and see how bad it was, I thought it was ok. In no way was it the best fishing show I have seen but at the same time certainly not amongst the worst I have come across. I had no idea who the celebs are but I often have no idea on celeb reality shows. I don't like the US Bass competition style graphics and feel on the show and am not a huge fan of "competition" style shows.

 

It followed a standard TV completion format of 3 tests on the Ebro.

 

Fishing for Zander, Bass and Perch with lures from a boat.

 

Carp fishing from the bank and boat (standard boilie,pellet and bag tactics).

 

Rowed out fish and pellet tactics for the Cats.

 

It was a bit lads having a laugh show but is fishing supposed to always be serious stuff? I think most expect far to much from these shows. They are just cheap filler for the networks on small budgets. I even get why they feel they need celebs to broaden the appeal of the show even if the concept is let down by having people that no one anyone seems to know.

 

Maybe this show was better then others or just the fishing appealed to me but I thought it was easy watching but throw away TV which is what 90 percent of all TV is.

 

I will give the next show a watch. I do wonder what the boys on the Pit think of it, I guess they might not have watched as they may think it's all Carp on commercials. Fishing with lures targeting Zander, Perch and Bass and no wire trace, the Fatwa on Ali and Dean can't be far off.

 

Rather topically with the legitimate method thread as well as no trace while not targeting Pike they had a disagreement over whether walking a carp bait 120 yards along the bank and dropping it in to the water was a fair method.

 

They also had some nutty crew member bring bananas onboard the boat and blanked until they chucked them over board but that may have been for dramatic effect.

i think the idea came about because so many banana boats where lost in the caribbean back in the 1700's. I believe the reason being as their cargo was perishable they would need to move it fast and so would go as quickly as they could so hiting reefs etc. Also they could not sit out bad weather in port as the bananas would continue to deteriorate and so the boats would take to the sea in less then favourable conditions.

 

Therefore, when compaired to other shipping like sugar and molasses, banana boats had much higher rates of sinkings and other accidents to boat and crew. So on the face of it, bananas onboard may well be the bringer of bad luck or more likely bad decision making.

 

I am not so sure about the fishing boat part and how that jumped from cargo boats to fishing craft. I have heard that it was to do with trolling speed. When crew on sugar boats put out lines to catch fish they would be less successful as they would be going to fast. Slower cargo boats would catch more as they where going at a better trolling speed. I have no idea how factual the idea is or whether there was even a major difference in cargo ships speed but most trolling I have done has been at a rather gentle pace.

 

I doubt the bananas made much difference to the catch on this show but it gave them a reason to blame for not having anything up to chucking them overboard.
