RMT going on strike to back a tube driver who failed not 1 but 2 breath tests. Passenger safety was paramount when it was decided to close ticket offices, now they appear to be backing drink train driving. How perverse can that be?

In this case they'd first need to know that their member was pished: they couldn't know that for sure with the info we can glean from the BBC report.

 

What level of intoxication does the LU look for?

 

Is it the same as for a motoring conviction, or more, or less?

 

Could this be a *morning after* offence, which whilst technically intoxicated (using motoring figures) is the not the same as being drunk and incapable?

I would have thought that slightly **** is no defence in charge of a 100 ton train and 250 passengers. :nono:

Not quite correct Barry, he failed two tests: it doesn't say they were two different occasions and the testing method has raised doubts as to it's accuracy.

 

If the rules are so strict as to put a persons livelihood at risk then the testing procedure has to be flawless (and idiot-proof).

 

If it can be conclusively proved that he was off his head then I'll join the lynch party.

 

In the meantime I expect he has a family to provide for the same as most of us.

 

How unsafe can a train be if someone maybe had a skinful the night before? They're on rails, there's nothing coming the other way, there's no roundabouts or crossroads, you only have to start and stop in the right place - someone with a bad headache, a migraine, period pains, etc etc is probably just as much of a danger.

A **** up night before train driver crashes train and kills ???? and seriously injures??????

 

Then the reaction.

Why was he allowed to operate the train when he failed TWO breath/blood tests for alcohol cinsumption.
