HAIR RIGS !

Hi Cyn

The short answer (and I suspect why no-one has replied) is that any bait can be hair rigged. The most common for carp are boilies and pellets, but other baits like luncheon meat, sweetcorn, various nuts, maggots, casters, fake baits, etc. can all be hair rigged.

Why? To allow the bait to behave more naturally and to achieve efficient hooking. Carp feed by sucking a load of stuff off the bottom, eating the food and ejecting the rest. This sucking/blowing pulls the bait plus the hook into its mouth, where the hook catches hold.

Not carp, but I had some good tench catches in the spring with 2 hair rigged fake maggots.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music
