Despatching fish

I was wondering what your preferred methods of despatching fish are ?

I'm not keen on just letting them suffocate - perhaps this is the best method though ?

Is the old "tap on the head" better ?

What is the quickest & causes the least stress possible to the fish ?

a priest works well on some fish, but i have had a flounder trying to flap its way around my kitchen after being "dispatched", left out of the water for 4 hours...then gutted.

As i went to bed it was heard jumping around the fridge!

Anyway, what i do now is priest then snick the spinal cord behind the head and the join between the head and body just behind the gills at the bottom of the fish. Bleeding it helps keep the fish meat white as well, especially if you cant gut it straight away.

Fear?

Hello to you.

If you`ve decided to keep the fish! Give it a hefty swipe on the top of its` head with a priest?

If you haven`t a priest handy. A 9ins wrench will suffice.

Yeah. I know.

It`s strange, that the same folk that will treat a skate like a baby, will kill another species with little thought?

But, only if we are keeping the fish for bait or supper!!

Paul.

We don`t use J`s anymore!!
