Braid

Depends on the situation.

For fixed spools with line of less than 25lb, it's hard to beat Fireline. It's stiffness is a huge advantage when it comes to reducing wind knots with light lures.

For baitcasters and some heavy fixed spool appications, PP still seems to be top of the food chain - although I personally use an excellent Japanese round profile braid hat I bought in Singapore.

Braid hat?!

These Far-Easterners are marvellous! Whatever next?!

What's interesting is that, though anglers are rarely surprised by a totally grim day, we nearly always maintain our optimism. We understand pessimism because our dreams are sometimes dented by the blows of fate, but always our hope returns, like a primrose after a hard winter. ~ C. Yates.

Like Ken I do a lot of lure fishing. However I don't find any problems with PowerPro in the lighter breaking strains - and I'm as hamfisted as they come! In fact 20lb Powerpro is my most used braid, followed by 10lb. The difference may be that I use only fixed spool reels.

The other braid I can recommend is Nash Bullet Braid. This is particularly abrasion resistant for a given diameter. However, because it has an extra component to make it slow-sinking, it's thicker for a given breaking strain. Having said that it's not as bad as it first appears as the breaking strain is markedly underestimated.
