Advice needed for grayling tackle

looked it up and it says something about access here

http://www.fishingnet.com/coarse_fishing.htm

don' know how that translates in fact

I came across that earlier whilst doing some online research.

All trout angling clubs on the River Tay are obliged by law to sell permits for other species. Grayling, pike, perch and roach are the most common species.

I suspect that this refers to the protection order that's in place for the Tay however the fact that even trout anglers have a pretty hard time on this river from salmon beat owners means that in practice access probably isn't that easy!

BTW Sportsman, a day out on the Tay or Tummel sounds like a grand idea!

In essence the protection order which covers the Tay and its tributaries means you cannot fish for any species without written permission. However, part of the deal was that all beats had to offer trout/grayling permits AS WELL as salmon ones. Nearly all the areas i know of follow this hence you can access most parts of the system for a small fee, usually between £3 and £5 per day.The tidal Tay at Perth is free for coarse species but you are supposed to have a ticket from the council ......Most folk didn't bother, but don't try this on any other part of the river. Stanley offers a ticket, easily accessable good fishing.tight lines.

Hi teejay

I've just spent a very happy hour on ebay stocking up on tackle so I now have everything I need but a rod, so nearly ready to go.

I would like a day out anywhere really :) so let's do that.

I live up the other side of Braemar so i would come straight down Glen Shee, about hour and a half to Perth or across to Pitlochry so fine for either river. I hear the Isla used to have massive shoals of good grayling so could start off around Blairgowrie.

How far do you have to come?

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Thanks for the welcome back :) That was quick getting sorted, suppose coarse tackle is as rare as hens teeth up there.

Best of luck with the Lady Of The Stream, jealous of course.

Got the rod now as well :) A 13' - 15' shakespeare Odessa from Mullarkeys for 40 quid so hope that should do the job. Lots of floats weights hooks and line and a box to put it all in. It will make a nice change, I havn't done this type of fishing for over 30 years.

As well as the grayling and roach in the rivers I found this place not too far from me

http://www.fishingnet.com/fishing_clubs/dunmore.htm

looks like the sort of place to spend a contemplative hour or two :)

I will make a change to sit and watch a float instead of standing up to your chest in a freezing cold powerful river not catching a salmon

I suppose I'm lucky to have the choice

As for jealous, I will let you know if you have anything to be jealous about, and if you feel that strongly you can always get a flight up here for about 99p.

Dunmore is a really nice place to fish, i've caught some good perch from there. Carp fishing isn't bad too.
