Mine would have been a flounder or eel from the river in Rowhedge, nr. Colchester, although I did used to accompany my dad on many sea fishing trips from a very young age.

First fish I caught - on my own- would have been a stickleback from the River Whitham in Grantham circa 1967 aged 6. I use to watch them gorge themselves on a lob worm and then lift them out and put them in a bucket - never actually hooked one!!! Kept in a tin bath outside the back door and released at the end of the school hols!

Whenever I used to hook a fish, my dad would grab my rod off me and land it himself, explaining that I was too young to handle it properly.

First one I can remember landing on my own was a 2lb pike while spinning on a river in Glen Mullardoch in Scotland on holiday when I was about 11 or 12.
