why cant gudgeon grow bigger.

fished my local canal this morning, had some nice roach, when i could get past the gudgeon, i must have had 30 or 40. but for the size of them, they fight like a half pound roach.

 

so im making my dream fish, a 5lb gudgeon. pound for pound they have to be one off the best fighting fish.

No barbel would fight harder!! I've caught quite a few gudgeon sized barbel in my time - and THEY fight harder than gudgeon sized gudgeon!!

I love gudgeon! There used to be loads of them in the Thames near me now they seem to have all left and been replaced by bleak!

Believe it or not I once saw someone on the River Dane in a match in winter put a weight together of just over 25lb all gudgeon using a three metre whip. We were out for a walk and I watched him for about 10 minutes. I decided to walk back up to where he was for the weigh in. It was quite amazing and he walked it as everyone else had the odd fish thats all. If he could have had dace or roach is catch would have been massive.
