The bears were a regular evening visitor to our campsite taking scraps and fish heads and tails from the picnic tables.
BIG Mistake to make. Don't feed bears. Don't leave ANY food around your camp that might attract bears. A bear that makes the connection between humans and a free meal is on the way to becoming a 'problem' bear, and will probably end up being a dead bear.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

If it was a frosty morning you might have spotted a pair of Greater Pointed Blue Tits

Yes, I knew that, having actually listened to the rangers safety talk. however, as so often happens in life there were men around who 'knew better', and I was only 17 at the time.

This is one of those threads we should all print off for the antis. Let them read it and tell them if they want these kinds of sightings to continue, not just for anglers, then leave us be.

I once saw what I think was a white mink. I don't think it was an albino, in the proper sense of the word because it had black eyes and darker skin on it's feet but it's pelt was a yellowy white all over. It wasn't a ferret before anyone suggests it could have been but it was that kind of 'dirty' white colour. It was sunning and preening itself after a dip in the White Cart, not far from the busier city stretches, near Cathcart. It didn't see at all bothered by me but I it was keeping an eye on me all the same.

Or leave them staked out on a picnic table in bear country!

Good point Andy

Im afraid to say alot of those people dont know the first thing about wildlife and how close in harmony all fieldsports and conservation are. They think we are all a load of bloodlusted loons that dont care about the countryside.

I saw my first wild otter last winter on the suffolk stour whilst chubbing. And what a sight it was. Another sight that sticks in my mind was watching a stoat grab a rabbit and killed it and dragged it of to its lair. Also saw a visiting osprey a few years back at Abberton resivoir, I managed to get it on the camcorder.

Bind my wounds, And bring me a fresh horse.
