The Chinese lanterns they set off were fun, though, as in a "that'll scare the living daylights out of some granny who will then report it as a UFO" type fun

NOT accidents ! Design faults, mismanagement, whatever you want to call it. Of course the Administration did a virtual whitewash at the inquiries.
