"Freeing up pensions" seems to have brought out a number of sharks masquerading as helpful investment houses.

So I had to chuckle at a TV advert "guiding" people over how to handle their pension pot by showing a fingerpost. In one direction the sign pointed to "investments". The irony was that a sign pointing in the opposite direction was labelled "income"

You have been warned :)

"A fool and his money are soon parted" has been true since well before the 1500s when it was first written (at least, the earliest I can find).

Thomas Tusser in Five Hundreth Pointes of Good Husbandrie, 1573:
A foole & his money,
be soone at debate:
which after with sorow,
repents him to late

If all those pensioners take their money out and spend it (which they will) how are they going to live?

OK to allow them to shop around for the best deal, but many will be tempted to buy a new car or take a holiday................and then what ?

"When through the woods and forest glades I wanderAnd hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,And hear the brook, and feel the breeze;and see the waves crash on the shore,Then sings my soul..................

Then they go onto benefits, just like all those who never bothered saving for a pension in the first place.

Why shouldn't they?

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

There are some horrendous stories on the UK Gov website! I cannot understand why these people are allowed to advertise in the first place.

Two years ago my pension firm wrote to me telling me the pittance they were going to pay me PA for 28 years of contributions, oh how that has changed now that I have just over a month to go till it matures.

Stil wondering what to do with the money, thought about blowing it on a new car or motorcycle but that is a bit silly, probably do the sensible thing and buy a new fishing boat!
