what you need to do is make sure the inset line is on a new layer, then when you do the copy part make sure that layer is turned off, had me going for ages got it in thend though.

My mate plod on the wye on friday, lucky bugger, i blanked. the top part of his hat was missing in the original photo, so i very quickly created the rest of it using the smudge and smooth tools
