Close Season Fishing !

Nothing planned at the moment. The trout fishing opens April 1st, so I have a little time to do a few bits and pieces. I need to replace the felt soles on my waders and tie up some flies - I'm thinking pheasant tail nymphs, beaded hare's ears and peeping caddis mostly, since those are my go-to river flies for early season. I will probably also tie up some more klinks with foam posts, since they make an excellent float dry fly for suspending a nymph under.

Sounds good Steve, I'm hoping to get out on the little tributary for the brownies this spring (the one we fished together that time), the last few years it's been high and coloured and no good for fly fishing. There's also farmoor!

I will be fishing my usual little Bristol Avon tributary, but I'm also really keen to catch a Thames trout on the fly. Given how much of a nuisance they were when I was chubbing, I'm hopeful, though the section I am going to fish is quite a long way upstream from there, and location could be challenging. I've got about a mile and a half of really nice water to go at though. I didn't realise how nice it was, even though I've fished it for years, because the club I had access through had the opposite bank and it turns out that you can't even see the best swims from that side of the river. I'm planning a barbel hunt there once the coarse season opens too!

I am a carp guy (not overly proud or overly ashamed) as subject to the critics for targeting "sewer bass". I promise you I have caught more carp than you've laid eyes on in your distinguished lifetime - and no pictures. I've known very few top notch swim coaches that were good swimmers.

Errrrm : barry,

Well you skunked me that's for sure. I didn't catch that many fish in 2014

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

barry,

I'll gladly reply to you.

You may have forgotten I was a commercial long line carp fisherman. My license allowed 11K tons a year. To many years ago. For some reason, probably because they are ubiquitous, willing, and perhaps the 3rd most powerful freshwater quarry, I stayed with them for pleasure fishing. My frequent and intense fishing days are over - thus - my stories get better. (I think I caught 5 - 6 carp last year as well as a handful of "trash" fish on planned trips)

I would almost say the same for the numbers of carp I have caught on rod and reel but that perhaps could be challenged. I'm certain I am not the most prolific carp fisherman of all time. Some paylake guys fish two eight hour sessions a day. It is their livelihood.

My statement stands.

That's precisely my point Bob.

John.

John,

Your main aim is to have a go at me when ever possible, I know you seem to have something against Carp fishing and fisherman, I'm an all-rounder, thus my Gallery, so I will always come back at you and if it sounds elitist, go out and catch the same kind of fish I have !!

And when you have, post up a few pictures as prove of those captures.

Taking pictures of fish has been a part of British Specimen Hunting since the 1950s, it's part of our a culture and not something maybe understood by anglers from abroad, those who don't want to take pictures often like to belittle anglers who do and thus we find the same old arguments turn up time after time.

I have been asked by a number of poster to give advise on certain types of Specimen fishing and I have given the advise willingly, but there are one or two poster on here who don't seem to appreciate the type of fishing I do and some of the other lads on here.

To bad I will continue to help if I can and the Tread Spoilers will get short shrift from me !!

Bob

BobH,

There are many and varied aspects to "specimen" fishing. Why do you take personal exception when someone suggests there may be another way to "skin the cat"

I once was a carp specimen hunter. In fact, in my most outrageous year I had 32 fishing licenses. The fiddly nature of "Euro Carp Fishing", more specifically UK carp fishing is not the "best" way. Can I say that without you making a personal attack?

I have now re-read this thread 3 times. I can't see where you're coming from unless it is thin skin.

I have no idea what you are talking about ?

I presume you are American, I could be wrong, but you give your address as America ?

Is that correct ?

I thought it was you who said you had seen far more Carp than I ?

But you know nothing about me or where I worked ?
