The Penn Surfblaster 7000 Spinning Reel - is this any good?

Having recently been bought a Surf rod I was looking for a fixed spool reel to match with it.

I have seen an ad for a 'Penn Surfblaster 7000 Spinning Reel (30lb - Silver)' for just £73 (RRP £99.99) but before I spent my cash I thought I would ask you guys if this reel is OK.

Thanks

not into beach fishing , can't help sorry.

Have you got a friendly tackle shop you can speak to?

The advert for the reel clearly states spinning, are you hoping to cast to the horizon with your rod, if you are then a spinning reel might not cut it.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Hi Barry,

Although the advert clearly states 'spinning reel' it has a line capacity of 295yards of 30lb line plus a long coned shallowish spool so it seems that it should be large enough and should be ok for casting 70 to 80 metres (or more) into the surf after Bass on my Surf rod.

If not I'll cry. LOL..

This is the reel in question:

Hello Bold Bear I use the 8000 version same reel just a marginally bigger capacity which quite frankly you don't need The reel is superb for beachcasting with Long casts are dead easy especially at night on a cold winter cod beach!

Like all Fixed spool reels the weakest point is the spindle that holds the spool which in normal fishing i.e. beachcasting there is no issue but they are not designed for winching 20lb cod up a cliff face though.

Get it bought you won't regret it....and to make life really easy have a look at some of these continental style rods they team up perfectly with the FS reel and 150 yard casts are a breeze even with very simple casting styles

Well I've sent off for the Penn Surf Blaster 7000 reel and am now going to buy some 15lb Mono and 30lb Braid (for the different Mono & Braid spools) and some 60lb line for my shock leaders, plus make up a few pulley rigs & patternosters etc. and buy a few 4oz/5oz leads and some different sized hooks and hooklengths plus some unhooking forceps, baiting needles, beads & swivels, and I think I'll be ready to make my first cast from the Beach for over 30 years LOL..

(I'm a Coarse angler trying to have a dabble on the dark side and feel like a kid with some new toys LOL)

I had a walk along the Beach today and spoke to a couple of anglers who had caught a couple of smallish Skate and Codling and one of these anglers was using Penn 7000 Surf Blasters.

I can't wait to get on that beach with my new gear and have my first Blank LOL..

Thanks for your help guys, Im much obliged.

Keith, you may experience "ring wraps" with your setup. Leader knot is the cause of the trouble. The answer is to use a braid leader, or braid straight through............60lb straight through will cast plenty distance.
