Great priced braid for Piking

Like I said Chris I dont usually buy braid in the UK as its much cheaper from the US.Had some Fox stuff at trade when I had an account with LEEDA but thats it.Didnt really need it but at that price I thought it would be daft not to.

I posted a "heads up" on a couple of sites I visit regular. On one I was told (and given a link to the site) about counterfeit Power Pro braid.Have you ever come across "counterfeit" tackle during your involvement with the trade Chris?

CERTAINLY HAVE!! In fact last year our INDIAN friend came over and presented us with a "Stuffing Stick" for use with the stockinette PVA? ONLY problem was the man who had the patent for it was also present!! Good fun that!!

But yes is the answer Budgie!! Very much so but it is usually from China allthough as I say India does it's fair share!! But not a lot from the UK?! Allthough I suppose some of the NEW tackle companies cropping up the gear LOOKS the same!! But price wise some of them are bloody stupid!! New company out now and they do a CARP carryall for £12 that will knock ANYTHING else into a cocked hat!! Well made and padded with more pockets than that!! Bivvies start at £35!!! Amazing! Now all I need is some hooky Rapalas!!

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

I just dont understand whats happening Greg are you snagging the line every time then? Doesnt matter what you snag the hooks in you should be able to straighten them.Obviously you cant do it with the rod (er in fact you obviously wouldnt want to!) but by getting over the snag (if in a boat) or even with a snag up from the bank and pulling direct you will straighten your hooks or snap your wire.Obviously better to straighten the wire for the reasons allready given.

When pulling for a break dont ever wrap the braid around your hand or arm always use something.I carry an 18" piece of broom stick to do this both bank and boat.As there is no stretch its no where near as difficult as pulling on mono.

As for tree stumps you want to try the reservoir I fish! indeed the whole reason behind my thinking on this subject!

Budgie, I can straighten the hooks on the rocks, but if they pull into the tree stumps it's impossible as the hook point is held in position. I only lose the occaisional trace but have you tried breaking 50lb? I find 20 lb will straighten on the rocks/walls but in the tree roots nothing will move.

Just never had a problem Greg. The hooks have always gone so never had to try and break the braid. If the hooks havnt gone then the snag hasnt been "secure" enough and its come in with the gear!

If ever the braid did become snagged I would be forced to break it out like I do the weak link on my anchor if in the boat and just walk back with it wrapped around my piece of broom stick if on the bank.Yes there is a good chance it would end up leaving a lot of line in the water.Thats not good. But the same would happen would it not with a lighter braid? Both being the same problem.

But like I said Ive simply not found this to happen.

Chris,But has this tackle been labelled up and marketed as the brand its copying or is it just a copy (allbeit identical) but under a different name?

Nearest I ever came was when I discovered a guy who was laquering and putting labells/stickers on cheap blanks and passing them off as a top quality make.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
